Substituted methanes containing an amino group (-NH2), carboxyl group (-COOH), hydrogen, and variable R-group on the same α-carbon; Types: Acidic (Glutamic acid), Basic (Lysine), Neutral (Valine), Aromatic (Tyrosine); Exist in a Zwitterionic form (both positive and negative charges at specific pH).
