Exclusively marine, bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic; Urochordata (Tunicata): Notochord present only in the larval tail (e.g., Ascidia, Salpa); Cephalochordata: Notochord extends from head to tail region and persists throughout life (e.g., Branchiostoma/Amphioxus).
